WOAPA Charity Donation

On Saturday 11th May, a cheque for £800 was presented to Cancer Research UK by students of WOAPA - West Oxfordshire Academy of Performing Arts.

Cancer Research UK Fundraising Witney representatives, Debbie O'Sullivan and Elaine Bowell, visited the Performing arts academy to receive the cheque and to see some of the children in action.

"We were hoping to perform at Cancer Research UK's 'Relay For Life' event last year, organised by the Witney fundraising group. Sadly for all involved, the event was cancelled due to flooding". Said Brian Conroy, Principal of WOAPA. "So we gathered over 150 of our performing arts students and adults from our singing group and recorded a CD of songs".

The CD, entitled "Sing!" was then sold to family & friends. "Not only was it a great Christmas gift and also a wonderful memory for the students to have, we decided to donate all profits to Cancer Research UK too, which meant we were all able to put something back into our local community".

Debbie O'Sullivan, representing the Witney fundraising group said: " The support given by Brian, Louise and everybody at WOAPA has been absolutely fantastic. This donation will go towards the continuous research undertaken by CRUK to find a cure for this terrible disease. It only helps to reinforce the mission of Cancer Research UK and 'together we will beat cancer".

The Witney fundraising group is organising another event this summer which will be held on Sat 20th July at Witney Rugby Club. There will be stalls, team activities, entertainment, lots of live music and an evening Candle of Hope remembrance ceremony.
